Self-Portrait
The
Self-Portrait is the very first project I completed at CMU. I was to take an information design approach to reflecting on my life, gathering information about it, and presenting it so that someone else could get a glimpse of who I am.
Poster
The poster is to be viewed from the bottom up. Positioned on a wall, the bottom should be at 4.5′ tall. From the top to the bottom, it is a timeline of my life from very young to the present. The top symbolizes a hazy memory from the past and a gradient to the bottom shows clarity and symbolizes who I am at the present moment. The background texture of words are commentaries from people who know me. The handwriting that is layered on top is a commentary back to those people. This conversation between me and those I know tells a deeper story of who I am.
Original poster size: 18X62 inches
Design Process
I sent out surveys to many people who I have relationships with. Some I am very close to and some are acquaintances. Using Richard Saul Wurman’s LATCH, I took this information coupled with information that I know about myself to deconstruct who I am.
Check out my process book below (or download it).
